GROUPS OFFERED:

Helping Teens Overcome Problems with Alcohol, Marijuana and Other Drugs
(Insight Class Program Curriculum 3rd Edition 2003) was born out of the early days of student assistance programming. In the 1980’s, Community Intervention recognized the need for student support groups to help students in trouble because of their alcohol and other drug use.

Today, Insight is a nine-session curriculum for teens in grades 9-12 who are in some kind of trouble because of their alcohol, marijuana, or other drug use. Through interactive group meetings, teens look at their drug use, consider the consequences of their use and make a decision about continued use. Participants learn about how mood-altering substances affect their mental and physical health and the social consequences of their drug use. Insight provides the opportunity to make an informal assessment of the level of drug use among participants and to refer students to special services, including addiction assessment, counseling and other support groups. Because of its increased use and the myth that it is a safe, natural drug, special emphasis is placed on marijuana.
